A Guide to Berlin's Nightlife!

Berlin Nightlife

Berlin Nightlife
offers something for everyone.

Whether you want the thumping of current western popular music, techno and dance house environs, or a simply café while catching a poetry reading, Berlin nightlife has it.

Despite its rough history and the city’s still disparate geography still pitting East against West, there are still plenty of ways to enjoy an evening in Berlin.

In Mitte, a major cultural district in the city, you can enjoy live music at Zosch, where the living room-like atmosphere on the ground floor contrasts with the louder basement, which frequently features bands.

Or you can enjoy one of Berlin’s hottest gimmicks going tot the Strandbar Mitte, which actually has a miniature outdoor beach and beach chairs. Don’t expect Santa Monica, but you may applaud the effort here.

And if you don’t mind the stereo cranked you may enjoy Schoeneberg’s Metropol, which typically exploits nearly every bit of its more than 35,000 watt sound system.

Nearly as loud, but a bit on the quirky side is the Astro-Bar in Friedrichshain, where you may find yourself dancing to electronica while being nudged by a retro-styled space robot.

And if you want enjoy some easy-listening jazz, Charlottenburg may be your best bet. The borough, known for its Nazi victim memorial and its massive castle, originally designed for Friedrich the Great’s wife as a summer home, and has now become a huge cultural sign for the area, offers up a few jazz venues for dancing and listening like Quadimodo and A-Train.

The great thing about Berlin Nightlife is that it, much like Las Vegas, runs day and night, and there is something going at all times. There are also three different magazines that list events and appearances throughout the city.

One is Checkpoint Berlin, which is an English language publication, ideal for tourists.

Another source is the Berlin Programm, as well as Zitty,, both of which are German publications, the latter being the most extensive list you will likely find anywhere in the city. If you can get a translator, or a user-friendly dictionary, this may be the one that will help you out the most.
